The Sail Light is inspired by the motion of a boat’s sail being raised and lowered. As the lid of the case raises, the sail unfurls and transforms the space it is in. When the lid and sail are closed it sits as a simple walnut case.
Process
The sail is made from two layers of reinforced Japanese paper that have been pleated and hand-stitched together. It is housed in a walnut case that when opened, reveals the sail. LED strips have been embedded within the layers of the sail.
